Agribusiness and Food Systems
Edward is an agribusiness expert with over 15 years of experience building farmer organizations and developing their capabilities to access finance and markets leading to growth and improved incomes. He has worked in many agribusiness industries, value chains, and market systems across East Africa, including dairy, honey and sustainable forest products, bananas, annual oil crops, and staple food crops. He has extensive experience in data research and analysis, program design and implementation of donor-funded agribusiness and food systems programs, and commercial agribusiness investments.
ORI applies Edward’s depth of expertise as our lead Agribusiness and Food Systems Advisor. He leads our efforts to conduct research and diligence on behalf of global development agencies, investor groups, and market facilitation agencies. His work involves engaging in market studies and value chain analysis, identifying profitable and practical opportunities for value creation, often within inclusive growth models.
Prior to joining ORI, Edward worked with the Uganda National Farmers Federation as Director of Livestock Resources. In this role, he led the organization, coordination, and empowerment of livestock farmers across Uganda, enabling them to harness opportunities along the livestock value chains.
In the past, Edward has worked for SNV, Oxfam, and TechnoServe, where he focused on organizing farmers into viable groups and enhancing their operational and business efficiency through targeted capacity building to access finance, services, inputs, and profitable and structured markets.
Edward holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree specializing in Finance, from Makerere University and an MSc in Development Economics from Uganda Martyrs University. He has also completed professional development courses in agribusiness, proposal writing, resource mobilization, and leadership.
